A Syracuse institution that assists the needy families is encountering its largest shortage because the number of car donation is dwindling, but there has also been an increase in the donations of clothing and furniture.
The Auto Center of Rescue Mission in Syracuse states that this year the goal is more than 180 cars. While in previous year, there were more than 150 cars became the target. The charity also states that in the recent years, there has been a constant deflation in donations, and this makes them feel concerned.
Cars that are not used, if donated able to provide livelihood to those in need.
According to the Rescue Mission, the cause for all of the problem stated above is the change in the tax law in year 2005, and it has caused the slope since then.
These changes make people lose their rights to write off the deductions of their tax for the value of blue book from their cars. Furthermore, this is the minimum of $500, from the sale price in an auction. In many instances, for people who donate, this is a loss, and this has discourage people from donating their cars because of the lack of incentive.
This year, the auto center of rescue mission expects to obtain $100,000, but that is only a half from what they were making each year before the enactment of the changes in the law.
In the meantime, donations in the form of clothing and furniture become much stronger. The manager of a store in that institution in Northern Syracuse states that this type of donations often rise up to 30% in December.
Those who are expecting to donate their cars can gain some cash on the taxes that they have plus assist those who are not that lucky.
To obtain tax deductions, that donation has to be conducted before the falling in December 2010. Those who intend to donate their car, can contact 423-8247 or visit the Rescue Mission’s Richmond Avenue garage. The title of that the car is needed.
