With Earth Day approaching, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area invites everyone to recycle their used car. They ask people to help build a brighter future and more energy efficient future in partnership with low-income families in Chattanooga and Hamilton County.
During the month of April, Habitat for Humanity’s cars for Homes program will present “Every day is Earth day” initiative along the year. This initiative is encouraging people to donate their used car, trucks, RVs, boat and other vehicles. These donations will help raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area and other Habitat affiliates throughout the country.
Tina Shaw Cox as a director of operation for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Chattanooga said “Habitat’s car donation program provides a simple and easy way for people in Chattanooga to turn their used cars or unneeded car into transformation for Chattanooga families” she also said “All donors or people who want to donate have to do is place a call, let the operator know that they wish to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area’s efforts, and Habitat will take care of the rest”
Proceeds from car sales, the operation of the Chattanooga ReStore are not to mention contributions from individuals, groups and others support construction of affordable Earth Craft Certified Habitat homes in Chattanooga. These helps will save many people in low-income families. Ms. Cox said that homebuyers spend about $42 to $45 monthly to heat and cool their homes and she adds these costs lower their total utility bill substantially help them use precious resources for other needs, and lessen each home’s overall carbon footprint.
For nearly six years, Habitat’s Car for Homes funds have been distributed to 1,055 local Habitat’s for Humanity organizations in the United States, Canada and overseas to help build affordable homes. Then, more than 30,000 vehicles have been donated to the program it is as same as $3 million annually for Habitat affiliates worldwide. Marcia Rundle as a director of Habitat’s Car for Homes program said that many time, used car lead to a landfill or sitting idle, but donating a vehicle for recycling or reselling was a hassle-free and easy way for anyone. It can help to support their local Habitat affiliate and help provide affordable housing within they own community.
Marcia also says “On average, more than 50 percent of the vehicles we receive each year are recycled, so donors are not only helps the community but also lets all of us be good stewards for our environment”
If you interest to donate your used car, you can call 877 277-HFHI (4344). Donor contact, title and vehicle information is collected and when the donation is accepted, Car for Homes will tow the car away free of charge. Donors will receive an acknowledgement latter for their car and they should check with the Internal Revenue Service or their tax advisor to know about the tax deductibility of their donations. The person, business or contractor can donate the largest quantity of building materials with the highest monetary value wins a $500 Lowes gift card and great prize.
